This Narrative Printmaking course will run over three Thursday afternoons in May. It is a course for people who like to experiment and have fun with printmaking – no previous experience or artistic skills necessary!

We will start with the creation of our narrative. This involves a simple method that can be used for inspiration over and over again.

Next we will plan our composition – again you will be taught a straightforward method that you will be able to take forward into future works as well.

We will then start with lino printing, where you will learn how to transfer and carve your design. When the first linocut is complete, you will learn how to enhance your work with monoprint, collage and block printing techniques to build up the design. By the end of the course we will hopefully have assembled everything into our final masterpiece!

The goal is to learn how to plan and build up a narrative work (a picture that tells a story) using printmaking.

This is not a step by step course to all end up with the same picture(s). Instead you will be shown how to create your own designs and to explore the different options that can be used to make them into handmade prints. This is an experimental process so be prepared to make mistakes and enjoy unexpected results.

Printmaking does not require you to have good drawing or painting skills. It simply requires you to have a go!
