Art Club – Garden Sculpture Course

Tuesdays 2nd, 9th, 16th & 23rd June 2026

1.30pm–3.30pm

£125

Bunbury, near Tarporley

This is a four week course where we will aim to make a garden sculpture in the shape of a moon-gazing hare, using a special waterproof paper mache recipe. While we are all making the same creatures, there is plenty of room for unique style!

WEEK 1

We will begin by making a rough drawing of our design and learn how to form an armature based on that, using waste plastic bottles and wire.

We will then flesh out the armature until we have something resembling the final shape of the sculpture. The sculpture will be approx 1ft tall.

WEEK 2

We will coat the sculpture in a special paper mache mix. The mix when dry, is waterproof and weatherproof and therefore the finished sculpture can be used in the garden. Please note, we may run overtime on this session.

WEEK 3

We will seal the sculptures and paint the undercoat for the final finish.

WEEK 4

We will return to our hare sculptures to decorate them in a bronze finish.

FURTHER INFORMATION

The ART CLUB SCULPTURE COURSE will take place in the workshop. Please bring an apron or wear old clothes and wear layers as the workshop is unheated.

Tea, coffee and cold drinks will be supplied with a selection of biscuits.

The course will start at 1.30pm but if you would like a drink first you are welcome to arrive from 1pm.

The course will include all materials and tools. Please note this is a somewhat experimental course and I can’t 100% guarantee that the concrete mix will be fully weatherproof. (I have tested the mix myself but it has not been long enough to test the full weathering effects.)

Experience level: beginner/any.

Please note we will need to wear silicone gloves for part of this course. If you are allergic to silicone you are welcome to use rubber gloves.
