Art Club – Lamp Sculpture Course

Thurdays 26th February, 5th, 12th, 19th March 2026
1.30pm–4pm
£125
Bunbury, near Tarporley
This is a four week course where we will aim to make a lamp base in the shape of a sculpture. We will use waste materials and papier mache to form the sculpture and a commercial lighting kit to house the lightbulb (and lampshade if you require).
WEEK 1
We will begin by playing with waste materials such as bottles, boxes and cardboard, and learn how to refine your design into an armature.
We will then flesh out the armature until we have something resembling the final shape of the lamp base sculpture.
WEEK 2
We will coat the armature in a special paper mache mix to smooth out the edges and/or create texture according to your design. Please note, we may run overtime on this session depending on how long you want to take on refining your design.
WEEK 3
We will begin decorating our sculptures with a sealant, and an undercoat. Also the first coats of colour can be applied.
WEEK 4
It’s time to finish the lamp base sculptures with remaining colours, patterns and metallic finishes according to your design. We finish with lighting them all up!
FURTHER INFORMATION
The ART CLUB LAMP SCULPTURE COURSE will take place in the workshop. Please bring an apron or wear old clothes and wear layers as the workshop is unheated.
Tea, coffee and cold drinks will be supplied with a selection of biscuits.
The course will start at 1.30pm but if you would like a drink first you are welcome to arrive from 1pm.
The course will include all materials and tools. Please note this is a somewhat experimental course and I can’t 100% guarantee that the concrete mix will be fully weatherproof. (I have tested the mix myself but it has not been long enough to test the full weathering effects.)
Experience level: beginner/any.
Please note we will need to wear silicone gloves for part of this course. If you are allergic to silicone you can try with rubber gloves.
